2019 Grand Prize
2019 GRAND PRIZE A QUARTER MILLION STUNNER!
Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize most valuable boat show prize ever
With a retail value of over $250,000, the 2019 Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize will also be the first boat in New Zealand to be fitted with Yamaha’s revolutionary new Helm Master boat control system!
The most valuable must-be-won prize ever offered at a boat show, the 2019 Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize will consist of an eye-catching Prowler Red Surtees 750 Open Cabin Game Fisher, complete with Surtees SiQ and the company’s new Offshore Transom.
It will be powered by twin Yamaha digitally electronic controlled 150hp four stroke outboards and fitted with the amazing Yamaha Helm Master boat control system.
The Grand Prize Boat:
The striking new Prowler Red Surtees 750 Open Cabin Game Fisher is perfect for game fishing and weekends away, offering great protection from the elements along with excellent airflow and ventilation for those hot, still days. A lockable mini galley provides an ideal space to safely stow valuable fishing equipment and the cabin is the perfect place to rest up when overnighting.
Like all Surtees boats, the Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize comes complete with Surtees’ renowned SiQ™ technology. Delivering superb handling in all conditions as well as outstanding stability, both at rest and while underway, Surtees’ unique SiQ™ includes Anti-Roll™ ballast stability control with Anti-Roll Lock™, Razortech™ smooth riding hull, Touch Deck™ super rigid hull construction, Safety Buoyancy airtight flotation compartments, Quik-Hitch™ trailer catch system and Surtees’ 10-year warranty.
The 2019 Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize boat will also feature Surtees’ new Offshore Transom. Developed using feedback from Surtees customers, the new Offshore Transom increases the 750’s fuel capacity, extending the distance owners can travel without needing to refuel. An external fuel filler makes it quicker, easier and safer to top up.
There is also more battery stowage, enabling owners to add a dedicated trolling motor battery if they wish. There is greater separation between the electrical and fuel systems and the former are now completely enclosed for additional safety.
A new internal offshore transom door, above the live bait tank, avoids bruised knees and provides extra support without losing any of the prized fishability in the quarters.
The new Offshore Transom also provides even easier access to the repositioned main vessel bung and bilge pump and a robust, built-in flush mounted dedicated passenger seat makes even better use of the cockpit.
The Grand Prize Outboards
The Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize Package will be powered by a pair of Yamaha’s very latest 150hp 4-stroke engines, and powered by Yamaha’s revolutionary new Helm Master boat control system (see below).
With larger 2.8 litre displacement engines, the new 150hp four-strokes deliver increased low- and mid-range torque, enabling the Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize Package to leap quickly and effortlessly onto the plane — and to perform superbly once there.
Capable of hitting top speeds of over 45 knots, the Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize will be able to cruise comfortably and economically at over 30 knots and boast a cruising range of over 250 nautical miles!
Yamaha’s new Helm Master
A fully integrated boat control system, Yamaha’s exciting new Helm Master boat control system will deliver super-easy joystick controlled docking when coming into the ramp and precision boat positioning out at sea. Using a unique combination of enhanced binnacle control, a streamlined digital display, push-button start/stop switches, an RFID key fob and an innovative joystick, Helm Master will give the Grand Prize winner total, effortless control over their boat in all conditions.
For example, using Helm Master’s FishPoint™, they will be able to automatically follow a school of fish under their new Surtees 750 Game Fisher.
With DriftPoint™, Helm Master will use a dual antenna GPS to enable the Grand Prize winner to set the direction and speed for a drift and then automatically maintain it, again without the need for any hands-on control.
With StayPoint™, they will be able to position their boat over a point of interest, such as a deep water reef, and have it hold there automatically, without the need to drop anchor or work the throttles and steering.
Docking and manoeuvring will also be a breeze with the Helm Master joystick. The Grand Prize winner will be able to simply twist or apply pressure to the joystick in a given direction and have the engines respond instantly, with thrust that mirrors the amount of joystick movement. Intuitive joystick manoeuvring will allow the winner to move their Surtees 750 in forward, reverse, left or right, on a diagonal or to pivot it 360 degrees in place!
Helm Master’s enhanced binnacle will add another level of control, allowing the winner to automate trim adjustments and speed control, select a second station and use single-lever operation, all with the touch of a button.
The Command Link Plus CL7 Premium Touchscreen Gauge is Yamaha’s latest and most advanced display. Fully customisable and able to monitor up to four outboards, its functions include GPS navigation and the ability to connect to a fishfinder, sonar, radar and camera. It also gives access to SetPoint™ enabling skippers to program their preferences for the FishPoint™, DriftPoint™ and StayPoint™ features.
Although the easy-to-use joystick makes Helm Master’s manoeuvrability look simple, beneath the water, the sophisticated Helm Master boat control system will be controlling each outboard and the steering independently. Depending on the desired move, it may use simultaneous forward and reverse propulsion, have one outboard in forward gear and the other in reverse, or run the outboards at quite different angles and RPMs.
Hosking Custom Tandem Trailer
The Hosking Custom Tandem Trailer has been specially designed and built for the Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize and will come complete with a Trailparts Credo multi-volt, wireless brake controller. This will allow the lucky Grand Prize winner to simply “plug in and go”, using any vehicle with a 3500kg towing capacity to tow their Grand Prize without the having to install a hard-wired brake controller.
The custom Hosking trailer, worth around $18,500, will also feature multi-rollers, a self-centring roller combination and a 15:1 NZ-made winch. Rated to 3500kg, the maximum for a light trailer on New Zealand roads, it will come complete with Treadway light commercial tyres and fantastic-looking alloy rims.
The Hosking Custom Tandem Trailer will also be fitted with a Balex Auto Boat Loader, worth an additional $7500, to make launching and retrieving a breeze, even when singlehanded in unpleasant conditions.
Garmin Top-Of-The-Line Electronics Package
Helping the Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize winner safely navigate to their favourite fishing and cruising grounds — and giving them the best possible chance of catching fish once there — is a very impressive, top-of-the-line, Garmin electronics package.
Valued at over $17,000, it includes Garmin’s super-simple to use, intuitive, large twin 12in GPSMap 7412xsv J1939 multi-function displays with GPS and chart-plotter. There is also a Garmin GMR24 high definition radar with a 48 nautical mile range featuring bird mode and a chart overlay function to make it easier to quickly identify objects, both on shore and at sea, at night.
The Garmin dual CHIRP sonar and 1kW transom mount will quickly pick out fish in both shallow inshore waters and in depths up to 600m. It will also enable the Grand Prize winner to see the seafloor at up to 800m.
The Garmin VHF 115i marine radio is a powerful 25W unit capable of communicating “over the horizon”. A commercial grade unit, it is also super tough and includes DSC for even greater safety. A chart card and all the necessary cables, NMEA2000 starter kit and connections are also included.
Lone Star GX3 Drum Winch package
To ensure safe, effortless anchoring, the Quarter-Million Dollar Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize will also include a Lone Star GX3 Drum Winch package, including rope and chain. A mid sized drum anchor winch worth over $4000, the GX3 features an oversized 1500w motor, gearbox and large drum capacity. Like all GX Series winches it also features the world’s first IP68-certified motor, Italian-made transmission, emergency manual release and stainless steel machined and anodised aluminium construction.
Fusion Apollo Stereo System
A cool boat deserves a cool sound system but an epic boat deserves an epic system and, thanks to Fusion, that’s exactly what the Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize has on board.
Fusion’s outstanding new Apollo Stereo is packed with exciting extras such as Apple AirPlay, Digital Sound Processing, Touchscreen and WiFi and comes complete with a full Signature 1600-watt digital 5-channel amplifier, four Signature series speakers and one 10-inch subwoofer!
And, just in case our lucky winner is on the deck and needs to turn up the music, Fusion has added a brand new ARX wireless remote for full control anywhere on board.
Rounding out the prize package is a latest model Fusion Apollo stereo, a comprehensive Hella LED lighting package, Seadeck flooring throughout, Oceanblue outriggers, HiTech Plastic seating and a Go Pro package with professionally-positioned mounts.
A full set of Hutchwilco inflatable lifejackets and a year’s Yamaha Marine Insurance are also included.
